I had an interesting discussion with some friends last night. They told me two things. One, Kerry was too liberal. Two, Kerry did not stand for anything. I disagreed. Hell, if he's so liberal then he must stand for something. I told them that the whole thing came down to the Bush message machinge was A LOT better than Kerry's and the reason they were saying these things is because that is what Bush's message was. The message was the Kerry was a flip flopping liberal.
Why am I telling you this? Well because the Washington Post has an interesting article today on how effective the campaigns were in getting their message out. It proves my point, to a point. I'm not saying Kerry wasn't wishy washy on some things, but the Bush team did a great job of pointing out those things, and in turn people believed them. Anyway, read the article and let me know what you think.

Social Security Reform
O.K. I've tried to stay out of this issue, because I'm open to the idea of reform, but I openly admit that I don't know much about it. Well, I found this story very interesting. It seems this guy did better under SS than he would have by investing in the markets. Anyway, it's from that liberal magazine of choice, The Christian Science Monitor so...
I thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention because it seems this is the first thing Bush is going to push for in his second term. Then he'll move on the flat tax, national sales tax, banning abortions, Christian State, burning witches at the stake, ritual sacrifice, etc. etc. ....

Why liberals were unable to stop Christmas.
The following is written by my evil twin. Which I guess would make him good since I'm Evil:
Well, chalk up another fake victory for God fearing Amuricans. Christmas somehow survived the attacks from the liberal media and the ACLU. It is amazing that the likes of Rush and Sean could stop such an amazingly powerful group of east coast elitist from secularlizing Christmas. Way to go guys! What's the next fake battle?
Here's a guess... The Passion not getting nominated for enough Oscars. Oh, these liberals will be out there telling us that "It's just not that good of a movie." or my personal favorite "I guess we could give an award to Matthew for his writing" but don't you believe them. The Passion was the finest movie ever made (at least since Birth of a Nation.) These latte drinking fairies just can't get over the fact that REAL AMURICANS believe this is a Christian nation. Well, try as they will, they can't stop Christmas. WE WON! WE WON!!!!
It's nice to finally have a conservative point of view on this site. He's right. Liberals wanted to stop Christmas, just admit it.

Baseball Hall of Fame
Since it is a slow news week, I thought we could talk about something everyone cares about... the Baseball Hall of Fame. I know, I know those guys are jerks for not letting them do the Bull Durham event last summer, but let's move on. There is a good article on the candidates here. These guys actually vote for it so it's good to pick their brains. It also shows how hard it is to get in, which I think is good. Hell, I wasn't so sure Puckett should have gotten in, but I digress.
Who should make it?
Boggs- This guy is in. No doubter. You can put it on the board.
Sandberg- How the hell is this guy not in already? Best second baseman in the National League for my whole childhood. The guy is one of the coolest Cubs ever. Not that that is saying a lot, but it says something.
Dawson- There's just something about "The Hawk" that doesn't make him a Hall of Famer. I don't know what it is. He's got the numbers. He was a class act. I think it may just be too much for two Cubs to get in in one year.
Gossage- Goose gets in. Period.
Jack Morris- What are you kidding me? Go watch Game 7 of the '91 Series and vote.
That's it for my list. People want to put Blyleven, Sutter, Lee Smith, Mattingly, and others in but they don' t make my list. I'd love for Willie McGee to get in, but that's just me.

Rumsfeld Sucks? Who Knew?
So Republicans are finally understanding what we've been talking about for a while now. They finally are beginning to speak out against the incompetence of this White House. But to go after Don Rumsfeld? That is down right unAmurican. I mean, sure John McCain and Chuck Hagel would do such things, but they're damn near Communist. Maybe even Bill Kristol if he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed one day. But, never good conservatives like Trent Lott and Norman Schwartzkoff. Right? Wrong. It seems as though even the man who wishes Strom Thurmond had been President thinks this is F'ed up.
But's what's the problem?
It's not like they sent our troops to battle with inadequate supplies. Oh!!! Never mind.
Well, it's not like they sent too few troops to do the job is it? Oh, that's right.
It's not like they've never found weapons of mass destruction. Ooops.
O.K. I give up, what have they done right? And don't give me this crap about having a successful invasion. If our military cannot beat a bunch of guys with sticks, then we really have a problem. We do have a problem, but it's not our military it is W., Dick, and Don.
Meanwhile, all conservatives seem to be talking about is how liberals are trying to take away Christmas. I hear it everyday from Hannity and Rush, and now that dick Charles Krauthammer is getting in on the act. Is this going on anywhere? Are liberals running around getting injunctions making people not sing Christmas carols? I thought this was settled a long time ago. GOVERNMENT cannot go around celebrating Christmas anymore than it can celebrate Ramadan. Government shouldn't get into religion... any religion. You can do whatever the hell you want on your time, but GOVERNMENT should stay out of religion. I'm all for some Christmas, hell I've been to two Christmas parties the past two days, neither of which had any government involment. It's not that hard. I understand this upsets people, but let their kids be Ramadan shoved down their throats in a public school and see how their tune changes. I know, I know "Amurica is a Christian nation." Well, actually, it's not. Yes it was founded by Christians, but it is not a Christian nation. Actually, they were running away from Europe and the idea of Christian nations. Actually, the only countries that are run by religion are, generally, the muslim nations that create these terrorist we're all so worried about. But, Amuricans should go celebrate Christmas. Don't let Rush and Hannity convince you that the ACLU is going to take away Christmas. Liberals have Christmas, too.
Anyway, back to more important things. ClapJackass's M's signed Adrian Beltre and may actually score next season. Meanwhile, my Cards lose Renteria and don't get Hudson. This is not looking good at all.

I love it!!!
Well, it looks like Bernard Kerik will not be the head of Homeland Security afterall. What has the world come to when the Bushies can't get a right wing hack to look over our national security. Howard Kurtz nails it on the head:
"Here's a lifelong street cop who suddenly became a multimillionaire from his involvement with the Taser company, which sells its weapons to law-enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security. And yet a few years earlier, an arrest warrant was issued for Kerik because he couldn't keep up his condo payments. (The FBI can't find an arrest warrant that reporters uncovered in days?)
It was never clear why Kerik's term in helping train Iraqi forces was cut short, or what if anything he accomplished there.
And then there was the story about Kerik supposedly investigating the personal lives of employees when he worked for a Saudi Arabian company in the 1980s.
If there's one thing that can sink you in a hurry, it's a nanny problem -- the Bush administration, after all, went through a similar situation four years ago with Linda Chavez. So what was Kerik thinking in allowing his nomination to go forward? Do you really think he didn't know, or somehow forgot, that he hadn't paid taxes for a household employee of questionable (read: illegal) status? And this for a man who was going to be in charge of the nation's immigration laws!
The main reason he got the presidential nod, it's clear, is because of his pal and business partner Rudy Giuliani -- to the point that the ex-mayor felt the need to hold a news conference Saturday after Bernie's withdrawal and to apologize to the White House."
As many of you would guess I appreciate anything that can make George Bush and Rudy look bad at the same time. This is a great story.
Let's see, what else is going on. Oh, I haven't said anything about Rummy getting questioned by some very upset Tennesseans in Iraq. I, first of all, think it was great that the Secretary took some questions from the troops. That is admirable. Second, I am proud that our troops have the nuts to ask questions of the Secretary of Defense. Now we know why Bush had to avoid questions during the campaign. I also appreciate the fact that now they are doing everything they can to get armor over there. NOW!?!? WE'VE BEEN THERE FOR A WHILE NOW, DON'T YOU THINK THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE SHOULD OF PLANNED OUT????
Sorry for shouting. It just gets me a little upset.
As far as what else is going on. Well, the hot stove is heating up, but the Cardinals haven't made a move, yet. We're in on Hudson and trying to re-sign Renteria. Should be interesting. Congrats, to our very own ClapJackass. His M's signed Richie Sexson. More K's for the buck than almost anyone.
Oh, and everyone look at the new comments on the Crucial reunion thread. It seems as though our manager has sold out. Anyone who would like to be the new Crucial manager just comment on this thread and tell us why you should be the manager of the greatest rock band ever.
Stay Crucial.

Grammy nominations out
The Grammy nominations are out and I'm confused as to why they even bother. I mean what the hell do all these categories mean. Wilco is "alternative" along with Bjork and Franz Ferdinand, Steve Earle is "contemporary folk" and "rock" (actually Steve Earle does rock, he is contemporary, and he's been known to folk). My main problem is I don't believe for a second that these old hags listen to contemporary R and B or Rap. And I thought Norah Jones was big a few years ago, what the hell are all these nominations for? Ray Charles is nominated for everything. While that is cute, and Ray Charles was a musical genius, you can't tell me this is his best work or even the best work put out this year.
I guess what I'm saying is not much has changed from the days when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica in the Heavy Metal category. Why not change who votes for these things, or better yet force the people listen to some music.
Anyway, does anyone care?

Why we lost.
Good article about why we lost Ohio here.
I don't necessarily agee with him, but he makes some good points. It at least gives us something to think about.
As far as why we, and by we I mean UT, lost the SEC championship game, it comes down to one word... TALENT. Auburn is better than us, but the boys did well this year and we'll be ready to rock next year.
I still say Bonds needs go to hell, and how sad is it when a bunch of politicians are having to get involved to tell baseball they need to have steroids testing? I actually watched John McCain being interviewed and the number one topic was steroids in baseball. Number two was Iraq. How f'ed up is that? First of all, yes there needs to be steroid testing in baseball. I think it ranks up there with a lot of things, but the war in Iraq is not one of them. Let's see what's more important some overpaid jerks destroying the best game ever invented or kids being killed? I'll go with our kids getting killed, but then again I didn't vote on "moral values" so what do I know.
Finally, I would like to point out a two part series in the Washington Post about the cover up involving the death of Pat Tillman. Is anyone else getting sick of our government telling us lies. They did it with Jessica Lynch, they did it with the prison abuse scandals, and they've done it with this. Anyway, check out the second part here.
Anyway, keep kicking ass and stay crucial.

Barry Bonds can go to hell.
I'm serious. If Pete Rose got kicked out of baseball for gambling, then Barry Bonds should be forced to go to hell for what he has done to baseball. I think they should kick him, Giambi, and all the others out of baseball and send Barry to hell for tarnishing the record books with the juice. I'm not saying others haven't done it, but this guy sits there and acts like he has respect for the game. Hell, his godfather is WILLIE MAYS!!! Get rid of them all. If Bud Selig can't do it, then get someone who can. I would say get W. but for some reason he still has a job.
Also, what the hell is up with Notre Dame? This is another thing that doesn't really come as a shock, but they are no better than anyone else. They fired Ty Willingham! Ty Willingham! How the hell am I going to do my Ty Willingham impression if he isn't the coach at Notre Dame? Did they think about this at all? No. All the Irish ever think about is themselves. "We're going to hurt Eric Ainge so we can win a game." "We're going to fire Ty Willingham so Evil can't do his impression anymore!" Well jokes on you. It seems Ty has already lined up an interview with Ole Miss. My impression will live on!!!!
On a lighter note, the Grizz hired the Czar yesterday. Everyone in Memphis is now praying that he is the second coming of Hubie Brown. I'd just like to see us win a game again, it's been almost two weeks!
And finally, GO VOLS!!! I know everyone, including me, is telling you that you don't have a chance tomorrow. Well, read my blog, I've been wrong before and I will gladly admit error if you win. So, go out there and bring another SEC title back to Rocky Top.
