So, I went to see the Grizz in person last night. All I can really say is ouch. That is not a good basketball team. They have a few good parts, but it's not a good team.
The Grizz starters held their own as they always do. Then the bench came in. I just gotta say that without AI, their is nothing there. Thabeet came in and promptly got his jaw broke. Sam Young is inconsistent. DeMarre has not shown a consistent 15 footer. Marcus Williams actually played alright, except he can't score. There is no scoring on the bench and there are three rookies. It's not looking good.
I don't know what else to say. These guys are killing me. Here's hoping they turn it around tonight.

Picking Thabeet, especially when they had Gasol, was stupid. Wasting 3.5 mil on AI was even worse.
They should have taken a decently sized guard with that pick that could either come off the bench or eventually replace Conley and they should have used the money they spent on AI to retain Warrick. Either that or to get someone that's capable of guarding the post.
If they had Tyreke Evans and Hack coming off the bench, that would take care of 2nd unit scoring. Young and Carroll could just focus on hustling, and Hunter and/or Haddidi could give Gasol rest.
That team's not much better on defense (although having a 6-6 guard with a seven-foot wingspan around might help when they're getting torched by jump-shooting). But I think that team could win 30-35 games. Get the first unit to care about defense, maybe more.
It's pretty obvious that the problem with this franchise is that the owner is making basketball decisions. Bad ones.
And why is it again that we selected Thabeet instead of Evans? Or why didn't we try to trade our pick and get Boozer? Did Hollins not get on the same page as Heisley as far as AI's playing time? Did AI really think he was going to be a starter right off the bat or even eventually?
I've got all kinds of Monday Morning quarterbacking in my head and I don't think any answers will help other than playing better defense. So sad, these Grizzlies.
Clay, the answer to all your questions is Mike Heisley.
Man, they are just fucking awful. It's like not even having a team. And with the ass whooping we are taking in the national media, sometimes I'm not sure its even worth it to have a team. But, I did get my picture taken with Greg Oden as I was leaving the Tigers game on Monday, so that was cool. He's versatile.
The Grizz are starting to stain Drogba's eyes
